The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014

The Act received royal assent and became law on 1st May 2014. It will come into effect from April 2016.

The Act provides the legal framework for improving the well-being of people who need care and support, as well as carers who need support and for transforming social services in Wales.

As part of getting ready for the implementation of the Act, we have launched a programme of training events, starting with basic awareness sessions. These sessions are designed to be delivered either as a one-hour briefing or as a half-day course. These courses can be booked via our website.

Further training is being developed by the Care Council for Wales and will be available from February 2016. This will cover:
  • introductions and general functions
  • assessing and meeting needs
  • looked after and accommodated children
  • safeguarding
