Target Audience : All staff in Children's Social Services, staff in other agencies

Learning Outcomes

Objectives Day 1. Participants will gain an understanding of: Why some children display violence and aggression towards their key care givers Where Non Violent Resistance fits in, in the context of other therapeutic interventions for children and families The importance of parental/carer presence How to use the basket strategy to prioritise actions

Objectives Day 2. Participants will gain an understanding of: Symmetrical (joint) and complementary escalation How to de-escalate situations The importance of building a support network How to work with families to recruit a support network

Objectives Day 3. Participants will gain an understanding of: A variety of parental presence raising strategies including The Announcement, Sit-ins, Tailing and the Campaign of Concern The importance of using reconciliation gestures How to support siblings who are being treated violently or aggressively A range of strategies to help adults look after themselves
