Learning Outcomes

To provide participants with knowledge and understanding of the palliative care approach, make them aware of the role of formal carers in palliative care and develop their skills to provide palliative care

At the end of the course, participants will understand the physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of palliative care and be able to relate the principles of palliative care to caring for a patient and his/her family

Understand the professional carers role in providing comfort and be aware of boundaries, limitations, teamwork and the skills needed to provide care

Have greater knowledge and understanding of the dying phase and be aware of the importance of caring for self and colleagues

Have an increased understanding of collaborative working between Health and Social Care Services

Have a clear understanding of routes of referral
